Sprouts are seeds that have germinated and become very young plants. The process begins with soaking seeds for several hours. They have to have the right combination of temperature and moisture to grow for 2 to 7 days. They are usually anywhere from ⅛ to 2 inches long.
There are 4 main categories of sprouts.
Beans and peas: lentil, adzuki,garbanzo, soybean, mung bean, kidney bean, green pea, and snow pea.
Sprouted grains: brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, kamut, quinoa, and oats.
Vegetable or leaf: radish, broccoli, beet, mustard green, clover, cress, and fenugreek.
Nut and seed: almond, radish seed, alfalfa seed, pumpkin seed, sesame seed, and sunflower seed.
Secret: Sprouts are nutritional powerhouses that when cleaned and produced properly are great add-ins.
