Tomatoes were feared for over 200 years. Starting back in the 1700’s Europeans thought that tomatoes were poisonous because after eating them people would get sick and die. But the real culprit was the pewter plates that were high in lead. The acidity that comes from the juices of the tomato would absorb the lead in the plates. Thus, giving people lead poisoning. As times change tomatoes slowly changed their rap even though it took a lot of people cooking and making recipes for that to happen. In 1897, condensed tomato soup was born, all to the thanks of Joseph Campbell.
Secret: Secret: Tomatoes used to be called poison apples. This falls in line with the biblical dudaim (love apple), mandrake, nightshade. The whole solanaceae family falls in this as being a tempting fruit.
