Avocados are a great source of nutrition and fat that can be a great part of a human diet. The same can’t be said for birds. Avocados are actually poisonous to Birds and a few other animals shouldn’t eat them either such as rabbits ,horses,cows, sheep, and goats. Persin is an oil- soluble compound that is a fungicidal toxin found in avocados. Don’t worry it doesn’t hurt you and is structurally similar to fatty acid. Birds that eat avocados ingest this toxin and cause them to get sick. Some signs of poisoning are inability to perch, respiratory distress, fluid in heart and lungs, liver and kidney failure, and sudden death.
